Kia Picanto Key – Folding and Smart key

    Kia Picanto key is a key used to open and/or start an automobile. Modern key designs are usually symmetrical, and some use grooves on both sides, rather than a cut edge, to actuate the lock.

    Record your key number

    The key code number is stamped on the key code tag attached to the key set. Should you lose your keys, Kia recommends to contact an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.

    Remove the key code tag and store it in a safe place. Also, record the key code number and keep it in a safe and handy place, but not in the vehicle.

    To unfold the key, press the release button then the key will unfold automatically. To fold the key, fold the key manually while pressing the release button.

    Smart key

    To remove the mechanical key, press and hold the release button (1) and remove the mechanical key (2). To reinstall the mechanical key, put the key into the hole and push it until a click sound is heard.

    Immobiliser system

    Your vehicle may be equipped with an electronic engine immobiliser sys- tem to reduce the risk of unauthorized vehicle use.

    Your immobiliser system is comprised of a small transponder in the ignition key and electronic devices inside the vehicle.

    Vehicles without smart key system

    With the immobilisers system, whenever you insert your ignition key into the ignition switch and turn it to ON, it checks and determines and verifies if the ignition key is valid or not. If the key is valid, the engine will start. If the key is invalid, the engine will not start.

    To deactivate the immobiliser system:

    Insert the ignition key into the key cylinder and turn it to the ON position.

    To activate the immobiliser system:

    Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. The immobiliser system activates automatically. Without a valid ignition key for your vehicle, the engine will not start.

    Vehicles with smart key system

    Whenever the engine start/stop button is changed to the ON position, the immobiliser system checks and verifies if the key is valid or not. If the key is valid, the engine will start. If the key is invalid, the engine will not start.

    To deactivate the immobiliser system

    Change the engine start/stop button to the ON position.

    To activate the immobiliser system

    Change the engine start/stop button to the OFF position. The immobiliser system activates automatically. Without a valid smart key for your vehicle, the engine will not start.

    Remote keyless entry system operations

    Lock (1)

    All doors (and tailgate) are locked if the lock button is pressed whilst all doors are closed. The hazard warning lights will blink once to indicate that all doors are locked. However, if any door, engine bonnet or tailgate remains open, the hazard warning lights will not operate. If all doors, engine bonnet and tailgate are closed after the lock button is pressed, the hazard warning lights will blink once.

    Unlock (2)

    All doors (and tailgate) are unlocked if the unlock button is pressed. The hazard warning lights will blink twice to indicate that all doors are unlocked. After pressing this button, the doors will lock automatically unless you open any door within 30 seconds.

    Tailgate unlock (3) (if equipped)

    The tailgate is unlocked if the button is pressed for more than 1 second. The hazard warning lights will blink twice to indicate that the tailgate is unlocked. However, after pressing this button, the tailgate will lock automatically unless you open the tailgate within 30 seconds. Also, once the tailgate is opened and then closed, the tailgate will lock automatically.

    *The word “HOLD” is written on the button to inform you that you must press and hold the button for 1 second.

    Battery replacement

    The transmitter uses a 3 volt lithium battery which will normally last for several years. When replacement is necessary, use the following procedure.

    1. Insert a slim tool into the slot and gently pry open the transmitter centre cover.
    2. Replace the battery with a new battery (CR2032). When replacing the battery, make sure the battery position.
    3. Install the battery in the reverse order of removal.
